Description:
The brief for this project centered on the transformation of one of two existing, identical buildings—previously utilized as warehouses for over 15 years—into a tile showroom and office space. The scope of the project was multifaceted, encompassing facade design, landscape development, and interior design. Beyond the functional requirements, the project carried the weight of a rich familial heritage, with the client’s dedication to the tile industry spanning three generations. This deep-rooted passion shaped the objective into something more profound: the creation of a museum-like experience center that would allow visitors to not only view but also engage with the extensive possibilities of tile design.
The conceptual approach evolved into designing a **museum-cum-experience center**, where the tiles were positioned not simply as products for sale, but as curated objects of admiration, akin to cherished artifacts. The intent was to cultivate a space where visitors could immerse themselves for extended periods, exploring, selecting, and learning about the diverse array of tiles available in the contemporary market.
A pivotal design goal was to fully exploit the versatility of tiles by showcasing their application across an expansive spectrum of uses. The design challenged the conventional perception of tiles, extending their application beyond floors and walls to include ceilings, hanging elements, sculptures, furniture, and even lighting. This immersive use of tiles aimed to educate visitors on the material’s ecological and economic advantages, positioning tiles as a greener, more affordable, and lower-maintenance alternative to traditional stone materials.
By transforming the showroom into a tactile and experiential museum, the project not only honored the client’s legacy but also redefined the showroom typology, pushing the boundaries of tile application while creating an educational and aesthetically enriching environment for all who visit.
