Commissioned by designer and researcher Gianpaolo Tucci, this project involved the development of an original audio-visual piece presented as part of his exhibition and lecture on Aesthetic Imperfections. The visual component was conceived in direct response to the conceptual framework of Tucci’s accompanying publication, which investigates the evolving intersection of artificial intelligence, typographic expression, and ethical design practice.

My role as a designer focused on translating Tucci’s theoretical inquiry into a time-based visual language that could both complement and expand the discourse initiated by the book. Rather than serving as a traditional typographic or illustrative supplement, the work operates as a performative artifact—articulating, through motion and form, the central themes of imperfection, co-authorship, and technological ambiguity.

The piece critically engages with the premise that aesthetic anomalies and irregularities—often perceived as flaws—can serve as markers of authenticity and individuality within systems increasingly shaped by generative technologies. By utilizing generative design methods and machine-aided visual production, the piece stages a tension between algorithmic control and organic unpredictability, echoing the book’s core assertion: that AI is not a tool of replacement, but a collaborator in reconfiguring creative authorship.

The visual system was created using a hybrid workflow that merged real-time procedural animation in TouchDesigner with AI-generated imagery via Stable Diffusion.
TouchDesigner was used to build a live-reactive framework where the audiovisual components evolve dynamically. Motion and transformation were programmed to simulate organic, erratic behaviors—referencing the book’s themes of anatomical and expressive imperfection.

Stable Diffusion was employed to generate base visual materials that introduced ambiguity and surreal textures into the design language. These assets were curated and composited to ensure the aesthetic remained coherent yet unpredictable—reflecting the blurred boundaries between machine-generated content and human-directed curation.

This workflow was intentionally non-linear and improvisational, mirroring the collaborative chaos between human and machine. The final piece resists traditional narrative structure, instead offering an experiential encounter with the tensions and harmonies of co-creation.
